BEST MARCH ON RECORD FOR HOME SALES
Residential sales activity in the area served by the Barrie District Association of REALTORS® Inc. posted another strong year-over-year gain in March 2010, climbing to the highest level on record for the month.
According to statistics provided by the Association, Barrie home sales numbered 468 units in March 2010, up 50 per cent from levels reported in the same month last year. Sales also recorded the largest month-over-month jump in more than a decade.
The total dollar value of all home sales amounted to $127.8 million in March 2010, 59 per cent above year-ago levels. This is the highest dollar volume on record for the month of March.
Total sales activity in the Barrie region numbered 481 units in March, up 51 per cent year-over-year. The total value of all properties sold in March 2010 was $130.4 million, an increase of 62 per cent from March 2009.
The average price for homes sold via the Association’s MLS® System in the first three months of the year was $274,063, eight per cent above the year-to-date average price for the same period in 2009.
New listings in Barrie were up sharply for a second consecutive month in March. New Barrie residential listings numbered 972 units in March 2010, rising 27 per cent year-over-year. This is a record for new listings in the month of March.
The rise in new listings has slowed the rate of decline in overall supply. The number of Barrie active residential listings on the Association’s MLS® System was down 12 per cent year-over-year to 1,789 units at the end of March 2010. This was smaller decline than those seen in the previous six months.
The number of months it would take to sell current Barrie listings was 3.8 months of at the end of March 2010.
